An Ode to Home

I call this a heart project.
Not commissioned. Not for sale. Just for us.
The body is quarter-sawn white oak, dyed a deep fern green — my favorite color- calm and familiar.

I hand-embroidered each of the door panels, stitching our story in small, careful details.

One panel holds persimmons,
one holds figs-
Trees that quietly marked seasons in our lives, and together, they represent the trees both homes share — two Asian persimmons and a fig. They were the first gentle hint that it might be time to move on- or move forward.
That loving one place deeply could open the door to loving another.

Another panel is our home in Church Hill — where we began our marriage, where friends became family, where we spent ten full years growing into ourselves. We turned a simple rancher into a two-story craftsman, shaped by time, work, and love.

The final panel is our new home. A different kind of peace, just outside the city. A country house that reminds me of my nana — welcoming, humorous, and full of potential. A place we’ve thoughtfully renovated- bringing in warmth, light, and color as we’ve made it our own.

This sideboard is an ode to home — to the place that held us for ten years, and to the one that will hold us next.
